Encouraging Creative and Abstract Thinking with 3D Printing

Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress

Most schools are incorporating 3D printing into some part of their curriculum. I designed at printed a project using Tinkercad. The applications for 3D printing are numerous. They give students an excellent chance to plan abstract objects and make those objects real using shapes and technology. 3D printing provides students with an opportunity to choose their own projects and explore their own interersts.

Engaging Students in Learning

I found and adapted a succession game for my Ecology unit. The game was a huge success with my students. They asked to play the game again later in the unit when they had free time. The succession game did an excellent job of creating engagement and demonstrating the way primary and secondary succession progress in an ecosystem.

Activities to Create Engagement

My student teaching with Sherri Holmgren was full of activities designed to inspire and activate the imagination of our students while also reinforcing NGSS objectives. We had the students create wounds during the tissue unit of advanced biology. The students were completely absorbed in producing accurate wounds and learning the healing process at the same time.

Visual Images and Education

Model digital age work and learning.
Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats.

Commuter Infographic.png

By learning to use technology to create infographics and animations, I can more effectively teach the content for my lessons. For visual learners, I can create visual representations that communicate the important details to the students. In science there are many complex pathways and processes that are easier to understand with some kind of picture or chart. Additionally, I can have students create their own projects as an assessment.
